Paint Marks
« on: March 23, 2003, 04:52:19 AM »

I recently found white paint on the engine mounting bolts.  The paint on the bolts line up with paint on the frame.  Is this something honda did as a check of some type or did someone have my engine out and they were put there to realign something.  Huh Just wondering

I think it's something from the assembley line. You find it on just about every bike. I imagines it so the next guy know the last guy got the bolts tight. Either that, or when a guy goes to lunch, he marks the last bolts he tightened, so when he comes back, he know where he left off.  Wink

They looked like they were either factory or from a real mechanic.  I know on certain proceedure I've researched for auto repair The manual said to mark bolts like this but more for alignment of torsion bar suspensions and such.

I just was not sure why someone would mark the engine mounting bolts.

i've been told that they mark these things when they've been torqued down (don't want any loose engine bolts rolling off the assembly line), and that also serves as a double check for the initial check up--to make sure nothing came loose.
