it is running way to rich to the point that it is almost choking its self out at idle. Is there any way to adjust the air.

We think that it was jetted bad. before he spends $150 on the bike we are going to ty to fix it first.

Does it have a pipe or air filter?  If it's stock, find out what the stock jetting is and start with that.  If it has a pipe, find out what jetting it has and call the pipe co for ballpark figures.  Is the bike now at a different altitude from where it last lived?

No, you can't adjust the air. The air doesn't need adjusted. Are the plugs ok? FZR's go through plugs at a rate unequaled by any other bike short of 2 strokes, especially with a pipe. I'd start by making sure the carbs are clean, the plugs are good and the choke cable isn't hanging up. Also, how do you know it's running rich and not lean?

It has brand new plugs as of 6/3/02. I can only assume that it is running rich because when he gives it some gas a big black cloud of smoke comes out and it smells like someone is dumping gas on the ground. The choke seems to be fine but I'm no mechanic.

I'm willing to try anything.

thanks for the help, in advance.
