1st post-air cleaner question
« on: February 8, 2003, 05:43:13 PM »

I've had my F4 for two years and 10500 miles.  Last few times I rode it felt like the power was down slightly.  I'm guessing that the air cleaner may be getting dirty.  I ordered a new one from Honda, but not sure if this is the problem.  What is your experience with changing the filter.  Did you notice yours being dirty before you changed it and did it make a difference?  Also how effective is a K&N without rejetting?  Next year I am thinking of going to a liter bike so I don't want to put money into my CBR.

Thanks...

I have a K&N. The old filter was dirty, filthy actually, when I replaced it. I haven't had the bike re-jetted. I have the stock exhaust. The bike runs fine. And I didn't feel any difference in performance. Mainly got it so I can clean it vice having to buy a new one every time it's dirty.

yeah you should be fine.   the K&N does bring in more air but you probably wouldnt notice the difference if any.

If you've never looked at or cleaned up the stock filter after 10k, it's probably covered with shit.  The bike has ram air, so you're sucking bugs and alot of other crap straight into your airbox.

If you plan on selling the bike within the next couple thousand miles, just put a stock filter back in.  IIRC, the stock and K&N are about the same price.  The advantage of the K&N (longevity by cleaning) will be lost by selling it soon and there is the possibility of f'n up a well jetted bike.

Is there any greater optimist than a racer on the starting line?
