I have tried to keep the RPM range up about 4000-5500. I think at about 400 miles I'm going to start letting the bike have it that is what I did with my F4 and it runs great. as for the black with flames I really like it but I'm so damn lazy and would hate to have to clean it all the time.

I can't believe anyone would buy an R1 and not get the black and flame paint job.  Ours came in today and it's the first time since my motocross days I'd even consider buying a Yamaha. It is the sweetest color scheme on the planet to my eyes.   Good thing you kept your F4 or we'd ban your ass from this forum.

Hey Justin, isnt that the bike you showed me a picture of when i was at your dealership?  its sweet... one day when i got the money i might get almost same thing for my bike only the flames will be whitish/grey and will have some tribal shit on it too to match my helm heh Smiley

Not sure how many of yous have seen that r1 in person, but i think the flames look MUCH more suttle in real life.  You almost have to look twice to notice them.  The picture that jeff posted from the yamaha website seems to be "lit up"

sooooooo sweet though

The picture is more from the bottom side so you can see the flames better. I saw 2 last night at a show. The show sucked except for those and one BAAAAD Busa. Fiberoptic rearview mirrors, showed the image from a camera in the tail and a really nice sounding system. You do have to look twice to realize they are flames.

I was also thinkning of going to an R1 next year.  I sat on the 954 but thought it was too short for me.  I am 6'1.  How tall are you?

If you're too tall for a 954, you'll find the R1 WAY to cramped. I have a body building type friend who's 6'2" and riding an R6 though, so it's all in what you get used to. Of the liter bikes, the 954 is the most roomy though.

I'm about 6'1" maybe 6'2 on a good day. I did not like the 954 because of the tank I have long legs and my knees would hit the side points on the tank. The R1 just seemed to fit me better it was between the 954, R1, and GSXR 1000 the R1 just seemed to fit right.
