I have yet to really get down on the bike but I know the power is there! I just wanted to let everyone know I going to stay on this board because i like it as long as I'm still allowed Embarrassed

Do you still have an F4? Are we allowed to see pictures of it?

Even though you should have gotten a titanium 03 954rr, you're still on a bike, so we have to stick together.

I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE 954 BUT IT WAS JUST SO DAMN UNCOMFORTABLE my knees did not fit right and the seat just sucks. I have about 300 miles on the R1 and I'm still loving it.

I'm following the break in by the book for the most part. The main difference I changed the oil at about 35 miles and I will do it again at 600.

Yamaha says stay under 6000 RPM for 600 miles the under 7000 RPM until 1000 miles. The mechanic told me try to keep it down but just don't stay above 6000 for to long.

Whoa Shocked, awesome Roll Eyes, I am Kawasaki green with envy!  I've been eyeballing the hell outta every R1 that wanders through my field of vision for years.  They look tight.  You'll have to do an in-depth compare/contrast with the F4 for us after you've put a couple thousand miles on.   Grin

How about - an R1 would spank an F4.. but wait, its got 400 more cc's. And its hard to keep the front tire down, so I'd still prefer the f4 Sad

I can't believe anyone would buy an R1 and not get the black and flame paint job. Grin Ours came in today and it's the first time since my motocross days I'd even consider buying a Yamaha. It is the sweetest color scheme on the planet to my eyes.  Cool Good thing you kept your F4 or we'd ban your ass from this forum.  Wink

yeah that's so hot...i love how it's descreet (sp?)and not look at me!!! i have flames!!!  It's really nice.  I love black on a bike.....minus the whole dangerous night riding shite (hehe)

Aside from that though, i think that's cool you have TWO awesome bikes.......me so jealous!! Tongue

Post some pics of them side by side!

Man.......i've never owned a BRAND NEW sport bike so i've never had to break one in myself.......but heyzeus thats shitty...  under 6Grand RPM? That's low and extremely teasing!!!

I hadn't seen the flame-job R1, so I had to look.

That's pretty hot.  I previously really liked the look of the flat black/silver R1, but this flamejob is pretty sharp.

The R1 is a cool bike, with GOBS of power, reasonable comfort (I've done 8hr days on an R1), and extremely lightweight...

The whole break in thing though has me puzzled...    Some say 'very gentle' others say ride it normal...

Here's a compelling article on it:

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Me, personally?? Well, I break in over the first few hundred miles while EVERYTHING comes in (brakes, chain, tires, etc) just making sure not to ride in the same gear too long, and do NOT under-rev the bike.  Dogging the engine is harder on it than whipping the piss out of it.
