What about in black and white?
Any better?

Not necessarily.  What you're getting into is dot matrix type printing which is different technology and equipment.  Standard screen printing is a 1 - 0 type printing.  Either there is ink on the material or not, you can't do shades.

I'm waiting for Gary to get back to me with comments on what he can/can't do.

Your worries for using the quote about addicton, are not to be worried about at all.

Just cause he said it, doesn't mean he has copyrighted the quote.  I don't think you really even need to add his name on the bottom of it unless you really want it to be a direct quote from someone else.

As long as it is not a slogan that he owns then you can use it freely as you see fit.  What about all those people with the whole "drive it like you stole it".  How much you wanna bet someone said that and someone else overheard it and went and made some money on it.

The quote is not so much a legal thing as a moral thing. Sort of like give credit where credit is do.

As for the screen printing, yes you can do a shade. It just requires varying the dot pitch and using a finer screen. Its quite tricky but I have seen it done. Not a lot of shops do it though because of the time it takes. Screen printing is cheap to do compared to most other forms on imaging, but doing gradient patterns would be too time consuming.

why not just buy plain t-shirts and print the designs on that iron - on transfer paper, that way you could get all the colors on !!   Grin

unless they're done professionally, they're bound to be ruined in just a few washings...

Plus I don't have a color printer or anything :-)

Screen printing will hold up a lot better than any thing else. The iron-on things look tacky and like Jeff said, will be ruined after a few washings/dryings.

Actually I have alot of shirts with the printed Iron on transfers and we have had no problems with them.  So you could try them and see no harm with that.

not to mention that people would wonder what the hell the shirt was all about because I don't have a color printer :-)

Gary will be back to me in a few days with what he can/can't do.  He does screen printing in his off-time, and right now he is swamped with a few other things.

That's a good point as well Jeff. Just let us know what he can do then we can adjust the design to accommodate his screen printing capabilities.

Just to throw in my two cents; I don't care what it looks like, I'll still wear it.

Okay, an UPDATE!!!

I talked to the guy I'd be doing this with.   His comments were that:

1.  It would take him about 1 month to get rolling on it because of current commitments.  I could look into other places, but would doubt I could get as reasonable of a deal.

2.  He also does heat transfers with a heat press.  As stated, you can do picture quality with the heat transfer, but the life of the shirt is not as long as screen printing.

3.  If we were to do screen printing, we need to limit it to 2 colors, and the designs should be kept simple (i.e. wing logo and text).

4.  Indications right now are that the cost on a screened shirt will be somewhere in the $22 range.  I don't think I'd go ahead if the price is going to be above $25 at all because I doubt that people would be interested in them.  The biggest factor in this is that I can't have 100 or more pre-printed because I don't have the $$$ to do so.

Comments?Huh?

Since it will be a month before he could get going on it...here is a suggestion

Come up with a design that will be the final product...then take pre-orders, the number of people that expressed interest already could cut pretty heavily into the 100 count.
I would definately be interested once the final design is made.
The wing logo and text does not seem like the best of ideas...just my thoughts though
