30 is probably about right. It depends on how you want to ride it.  35 is not bad for the street, riding a bit less agressivly.  Sounds like you need stiffer springs.

?? The bike is bone stock! stiffer springs??? nothing really wrong with it now, just trying to make it handle better (seems a little heavy in transitions compared to the f4), and get better mi out of tires. i don't usually ride too hard, but generaly scuff all the way to the last 1/8 in from the edge of tire. shouldn't the stock springs handle this??
thanks for the input. Smiley

Dependes on how much you weigh.  Stock springs are for someone around 150 lbs or so.

HUM!!! I weigh about 140ish, depending on wether or not I've taken a shit. Grin I tried to readjust today and got it just under 40mm but it is still cranked to the last line. It is kinda hard to do by yourself. don't suppose it really matters though I'm no racer. Never even had a track day. Still might look into new springs anyway.

There's no way you should be at 40mm with stock springs cranked down full and you weighing 140lbs.  Your measurements are going to be off unless you have yourself and 2 others (one to hold and one to measure).

I agree. Either you are not measuring correctly, are doing conversions from SAE to metric incorrectly, need better helpers, are turning the adjustors the wrong way, or something is wrong with the bike.
Where do you live? If you are near me (San Jose, CA) maybe I can take a look.

Oooopps, Just looked at your profile, you are not very near me.  Might be a bit inconvienient to ride it over to my house.

I sit on the bike (in full drag) and slide the zip ties to the seals, jack the bike so the front wheel is off the ground and then measure with a 1/64 scale and then use dial calipers with mm increments to see what my measurement is. (can't get the calipers in straigh to get the measurement directly.)

No wonder!

The sag you need to measure is with the front tire ON the ground!  Put the bike on the ground, bounce it up and down a few times, slide the zip tie down to the fork seal (without you on it), then get on, bounce up and down, have someone (while you're still on it) slide the zip tie down to the fork boot.  Get off the bike and measure the distance between the zip tie and the fork boot as it sits there.

The way you are measuring, you're combining race sag and static sag!

The reason I say this method won't be completely accurate is because getting on and off the bike will move the zip tie a few MM in either direction.

Interesting. ? differance between static & racing sag?
The article i read said to lift up on the front until the forks top out and measure. I'll try the way you say and see what happens. Wink
