What do you mean "I'm a llama?"
|
This morning I went to start the bike (I hadn't ridden in 10 days or so, but that is not usually any big deal) and I did everything I should (in neutral, key on, kill switch on) and it turns over but doesnt start. I go back on the choke a little and try again, but I notice as its turning over its getting slower and slower until about 10 seconds later it won't turn over anymore. Sounds like the battery, but why would it be dead all of a sudden? Could it be the alternator/stator (whatever its called)? (that would probably suck). Any ideas on what to do would be appreciated.

The bike is a 99, duno how old the battery is. BUT, I got home from work and it started right up, no problem. (Weird...)
I do however have a new problem... It seems to be running badly now. I let it warm up a bit and turned the choke off. If I'd hit the throttle real quick it would stumble before revving up. If I rolled onto it slowly, it was fine. The biek may sound a bit rough, but not horrible or anything. Any ideas? Spark plugs? Battery related somehow?

Nope. Filled up with gas last week when I last had it out and put about 110 miles on it. Been parked since. Maybe it was doing this then, I duno... Its not really bad or anything, but I've never noticed itbefore. and that starting thing this morning was just weird...

Check all the battery connections. May even be worth taking them all off, cleaning if necessary, and re-attaching them. May also want to inspect plug wires and spark plugs. I had a problem with one of my bikes a few months ago and found the ground wire on the battery was not completely tight.

--UPDATE--
I took the battery off last night after this started happeing again. I charged it up. The bike seems fine now, starts well, etc. It got to where it would start only after I'd been riding for at least 15-20 minutes. if I ran it shorter than that it didn't have the juice to start. If this starts happening again, I'll check the regulator. I'll keep you informed..

I bump started the bike in my driveway (battery is dead AGAIN) and I took a voltmeter to the electrical system. It is putting out 14 volts at idle and 13.xx at a few thousand revs. (I touched the volt meter terminals to the battery terminals to get these numbers.) Does this mean its the battery? The battery seems to take a charge... Or is there an electricla connection somewhere loose? (I'm going to have the battery load tested later after I charge it)

I had the battery load tested at an autop parts store (the motorcycle shop didnt have that equipment). The battery isn't holding a charge. Looks like I need a new one afterall... Thanks everyone.
