tank removal
« on: June 1, 2002, 11:48:29 PM »

So I just bought a 200 F4 and picked up a K&N filter. When I followed my little Honda booklet for filter replacement it was pretty straight forward. Only one problem: I think that there were another two washers UNDER the front mounts for the tank. I say this because when I pulled up on the front of the tank I heard some metal fall down. When I searched for another two washers somewhere on the ground or in the bike I never found any. Is there another set that are now lost somewhere in my bike? Also, when I put everything back together the top rubber boots that the screws go through are really squished. They weren't that squished when I undid them. But tightening till they got tight caused considerable compression and they look like ass now and will surely start to crack. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

You have lost the two collars, they are probably stuck somewhere around your engine, but should do no harm.  They will eventually rattle their way out.  I have lost one of them too, no big deal.

Just go to your dealer and pick up two more collars(and a couple of extras too.  They keep the mounting rubber from "squishing" down like yours is currently.

Hope this helps

There's also a washer under each one.  After losing a dozen of the buggers I finally decided to use a flexible glue to hold the whole thing in place...  Haven't lost one since!

Ya, the service manual shows the collars underneath the rubber mount and washers on top.  My bad.  I was just looking at was underneath.
