Low Oil Pressure
« on: July 28, 2005, 10:35:25 PM »

I just bought a 2001 CBR600F4, and i rode it around today and when i turned the key on i noticed that the "Low Oil Pressure" light was blinking.  What is my first step to find out how bad the problem is... what are the possible problems.  The seller of the bike changed the oil yesterday, which is why i am a little confused about the oil pressure.. I also asked him if he knows anything, but no answers from him yet.  Any help would be appreciated.. this is my first bike.

Sounds like cam bearings better return the bike or get a cam kit but your talking big money either way. What happens is the bearings wear down and allow oil to slip passed them causing your oil pressure to drop. This usually happens on cold start and the pressure will rise as the motor heats up because ofcourse metal expands. If he just changed the oil he may have known this hence the changing of the oil before he sold it.

But on the brighter side of things he may have just used some cheap no name motorcycle oil you get from walmart of somewhere like that. Motorcycle oil from honda is made for specifications needed for motorcycles and the cheap crap people buy from walmart will not perform the way its suppose to. I would suggest asking him what type of oil he put in it make sure your oil level is up I think cbr600 f4's take 4 quarts. Make sure you buy only honda filters as well no cheap aftermarket crap. Just a tip you may want to run a cup only of motorflush for less then five minutes at idle before changing the oil that way if he was using cheap oil then it will break up any sludge that may have colected.
