main fuse keeps blowing
« on: May 29, 2006, 05:15:57 AM »

ok this is a huge problem that has been boggling my mind for days but i'm sure there's a simple solution. i start my bike and it runs beautifully. after warming up a little bit, i pull the clutch in and put it in first. as i'm letting the clutch out....boom....no power. the main fuse blows out every time i attempt to ride. it idles fine and if i get lucky enough to get moving it rides fine. i'm not an expert with electrical system yet so i could really use some help here!

i believe i've narrowed it down to the alternator now. i tested the three wires running out of the alternator and they all show continuity with ground which (according to my manual) means bad stator. does a short in the alternator sound like a reasonable answer to the main fuse blowing repeatedly??
